Guided tasks

A guided task is a job the assistant already knows how to do properly. You answer two or three questions, and it follows a procedure written and tested in advance instead of improvising.

Use one whenever it matches. The results are noticeably better than the same request typed into a blank chat, because the procedure tells it to check before it acts, back up before it edits, verify afterwards, and report in plain English.

How to start one

New session → pick a tile, or Browse ready-made tasks for the full library, which you can search and filter by group.

Then:

1. Pick the server. Auto-selected if you only have one. For website tasks we look up where the domain actually points and tell you whether that matches the server you chose — catching the "wrong server" mistake before it costs you anything.

2. Answer the questions. Plain-English fields with sensible defaults — which domain, which service, how big a swap file. Each has a one-line explanation underneath.

3. Read "What happens next." A short summary of the approach, and a See the steps the assistant will follow link if you want the detail.

4. Start. A chat opens, titled after the task, in the right mode: checks start in Read, changes start in Execute with approval.

The readiness check

When you pick a server, we run a quick read-only look at it: can we connect, which operating system, how much free disk, and whether the login has administrator rights.

It exists to catch the two dead ends that waste the most time:

• The server cannot be reached at all.
• The login cannot install or change anything. You will see: "This login has no admin rights without a password, so the assistant can look but can't install or fix things." Better to know now than four steps in.

Example: "Fix my website or app"

The most-used task. You give it the address, tick what you are seeing (blank page, error message, slow, certificate warning), say when it started and whether anything changed.

The assistant then works outward in, the way an engineer would:

1. Where does the domain point? Is that this server?
2. What happens when a visitor's request arrives?
3. Is the certificate valid?
4. Is the web server running and is its config sound?
5. Is the app running?
6. What do the logs say?
7. The common causes, checked one by one.

Then it explains the cause with the evidence, fixes one step at a time with your approval and a backup of anything it edits, re-checks the site the way a visitor would, and finishes with What was wrong / What I did / What to do next.

The whole thing lands in the server's Activity log.

Limits worth knowing

• The steps guide the assistant; they are not a script. It still has to follow them, and occasionally it will take a different route. The approval gate applies to every change regardless.
• "Put it back the way it was" is not always possible for system packages. Where that is true, the task says so and suggests taking a snapshot in your hosting dashboard first.
• One server per task, except read-only checks, which can cover all your servers at once.
• Guided tasks are in the main chat only, not in the Terminal's AI helper.
• A bot command that runs longer than 20 minutes is stopped.

Ask AI bot vs guided tasks

The Ask AI bot button on a server's health card is different: it opens a chat with the server and its current problems filled in, and waits for you to say what you want. It does not start a guided task. Use the New session panel for those.
