Getting started

Do I need to install anything on my server? No. We connect over SSH, which every Linux server already has. Nothing is installed and nothing is left behind.

Do I need to know Linux? No. The health cards, the tabs and the assistant are all designed for someone who does not. The terminal is there if you do.

What kind of servers work? Any Linux server you can reach over SSH — a VPS from any hosting company, a dedicated machine, an AWS EC2 instance, a virtual machine in your own office. Windows servers are not supported.

Do I need an AWS account? No. Choose a Server Only project and ignore the AWS section entirely.

Will this change anything on my server? Adding a server makes one connection and changes nothing. Health checks are read-only. Changes happen only when you press a button or approve an action.

Safety

Can the AI break my website? It cannot change anything at all in Read mode, which is where every chat starts. In Execute mode it asks before each change, and destructive commands always ask even with auto-approve on. See The safety switch.

What happens if I approve something wrong? It runs, and it is recorded. There is no undo for a server command. This is why guided tasks back up configuration files before editing them, and why the destructive list exists.

Can you see my passwords? They are encrypted before storage and decrypted only in memory to make a connection you asked for. They are never returned to a browser and never given to the AI model. The full detail, including what the model can see, is in How we protect your credentials.

Is the AI trained on my data? Your conversations go to the model provider to produce an answer. We do not train models on your data.

Day to day

Why does my server say "Can't connect" when it was fine? The server may be down, its IP may have changed, the password may have been changed, or a key may have been removed. The exact error is on the card. See connection problems.

How often is the health checked? Every 15 minutes in the background, on opening the page if older than 5 minutes, and whenever you press Check all now.

Will you tell me when my site goes down? Not yet. Uptime records outages; there are no alerts of any kind today. See Uptime.

How many servers can I add? No limit is enforced during the beta. See Plans.

Can I use it on my phone? Yes — every screen has a mobile layout, including the terminal, which gets a key bar for Ctrl, Esc, Tab and the arrows.

Team

Can I give my developer access without giving them my password? Yes, that is what team logins are for. They get their own password and a role that limits what they can do.

What if they leave? Disable or remove their login. Also check the servers themselves for an SSH key or a Linux user created for them — the remove dialog lists which servers to check.

Can I see who did what? Yes. Every action is in the per-server activity log, with a Who filter.

Money

What does it cost? Free costs nothing and starts with $2 of AI credit. Paid plans start at $19/month; email support@devops-agent.io to upgrade and ask about beta launch discounts. See Plans.

What happens when my AI credit runs out? Only the assistant pauses. Everything else keeps working. You can use your own AI key and stop spending our credit entirely.

Do you charge for the servers? No. You keep renting them from whoever you rent them from. We do not host anything.

Limits and honesty

What does not work yet? Alerts of any kind; Google Cloud projects; billing; background health checks for EC2 instances; activity log export; a screen for adding MySQL connections. Each is noted on the relevant page.

Is it production ready? People use it on production servers. It is in beta, which means: expect occasional restarts (which end SSH sessions and cancel waiting approvals), and keep whatever alerting you use today until ours ships.

What if I want to stop using it? Delete your projects, and remove DevOps Agent's key from ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on each server (or change the password you gave us). That is the whole of it — nothing was installed on your machines.
